Dr. G.U. Pope College of Engineering in Sawyerpuram recently organized the Tamizhar Thirunal Samathuva Pongal Festival. The event was presided over by the college’s correspondent, Mr. R. Rajesh Ravichandar, who delivered a special address to the students, highlighting the rich heritage of Tamil culture. The college principal, Dr. J. Japhynth, facilitated and coordinated the program.
The event featured a special guest, Mr. P.G. Ravi, DMK Central Union Secretary of Srivaikundam, who conveyed his best wishes to the students. Additionally, Mrs. Jebathangam, Tuticorin South District DMK Deputy Secretary, spoke about the significance of Pongal as a festival of gratitude and harvest. Mr. Ponsekar, Former Panchayat President of Sawyerpuram, delivered a speech emphasizing Tamil culture and its historical pride.
The celebration witnessed enthusiastic student participation, with attendees dressed in traditional attire to honor Tamil customs. The program also had the presence of dignitaries, including Sawyerpuram Pastorate Secretary Abishegam, Pastorate Treasurer Johnson Raphael, hospital manager Sham, special engineer of the college Deepakraj, as well as department heads, professors, college staff, and students.
This celebration not only fostered cultural unity but also instilled a sense of pride in Tamil heritage among the students and staff.
